Unruly Media

Duration: 8 weeks
Size: 12,323 sq ft

Unrulymedia, a young, dynamic and fast evolving digital media company were taking an entire building covering four floors near to Brick lane, Spitalfields. Not having to share their home with other tenants in the building gave them a greater freedom to express the Unruly Media brand throughout the whole demise.

The building is architecturally interesting with three different floors interlinked with central openings below a skylight and decking area overlooking the main office. Re-finished exposed steel beams, additional hibay lighting and unfinished metal raised floor pans gave the space an unconventional appearance. The metal raised floor pans also conformed to a major part of the clients brief that would allow for ease of expansion for future power and data modifications.

A design was required that allowed them to function as a head office and represent the unruly brand, whilst at the same time harmonise with and accentuate the warehouse feel of the building.  The space isn’t just a place to work but a place for team building and fun, with a single floor dedicated to a breakout area containing a large bar area, sofas and soft seating to emphasise that feeling of being at home. We think the quirkly nature of the building and the resulting fit-out fits Unruly perfectly.

Challenging timescales demanded a lot from the Base team, coupled with an ever evolving brief we had to keep focused on the end date whilst delivering substantial changes within our original time frame. The end result was a great achievement for Base and the Unruly group, who subsequently couldn’t be happier with their new office.
